This is the third adventure to Marble Falls to participate in a painting competition and I do so with anticipation and trepidation. I have expectaions to succeed and improve.
We arrived the night before and stayed at the Hampton. The next morning was heavily overcast and misty; forebode of impending rain. My kind of day. We scouted possible sites; I strive to find unique subjects, how many times can one paint the most popular restaurant in town? While driving around, I saw a train trestle to my left and after a sloshing through a park, was able to settle on a concrete pad just near to my new subject: Brokeback Creek Trestle.
I composed and completed a 20 x 16 oil painting on Ampersand Gessobord in that same day as we had dinner plans that evening.
The next morning I woke up very early to paint sunrise and did this Stormy Sunrise in the dark. 12 x 9 Oil on Ampersand Gessobord.
I entered both in the contest and to my genuine surprise the Brokeback Creek Trestle earned 5th place! Praise God. Both were auctioned off to successfully culminate a wonderful weekend. I"ll be back.
